Unvented cylinder replacement in Petersfield

The job

A homeowner in Petersfield asked us to replace the unvented hot water cylinder serving their property. The existing Megaflo cylinder sat in the loft, so this was more than a straight swap: the old unit had to come out and the new one go in through the loft access. We ran the customer through the best options for their home before any work started, so they knew what the job would involve from the outset.

What we did

We began by isolating, draining and removing the existing Megaflo unvented hot water cylinder along with its associated pipework. To get the old cylinder out and the new one in, we removed the loft hatch, a timber joist and a section of plasterboard to open up the access.

With the space clear, we built a new base for the cylinder from 18mm Malaysian plywood on a structure of 2 inch by 4 inch sawn and treated timber, then supplied and installed a Megaflo 210 litre unvented indirect hot water cylinder onto it, connected up with new copper pipework, fittings and sundries.

Once the cylinder was in place we reinstated the timber joist, the plasterboard and the loft hatch, added inhibitor and refilled the heating system, and bled every radiator in the property. The hot and cold water supply was then reinstated, and the whole installation tested and commissioned before we left.

The result

The property now has a new 210 litre unvented indirect cylinder, properly supported on its own timber and plywood base and fully commissioned, with the loft access and ceiling put back as we found them. The customer was extremely happy with the finished job. It is the sort of unvented cylinder installation we take on regularly in Petersfield: careful, tidy work, with everything made good and tested before we hand it back.
